Recent Book Signing

Wow! What a great time I had at my book signing at the Barnes and Noble bookstore in Selma, Texas this past month. This was my first book signing and the anxiety going into it quickly diminished after meeting the wonderful staff there and their helpful tips. The greatest was encouraging me to greet the people as they come in the door. I was a little shy at first, but since I am a talker, I quickly felt at home.
I began by welcoming the people as they came in and then quickly asked if I could introduce them to my new book “Shattered”.
Not all responded but many did, and I was excited to tell them about my book. Most were interested in the fact that even though it was considered a fictional book, it was based on true happenings or events that occurred in my family. This sparked varied and interesting conversations.
It was so refreshing to watch people who love books handling them with such respect. There is just something special about holding a book, taking in its cover, turning it over and reading the back and then smelling the print as you flip the pages.
It was thrilling for me to see the different aspects of my book that were of interest. Some were drawn to the book by its cover, some liked the fact that it was based on real facts, some liked the setting and/or the era, and others were intrigued by the name of the book, Shattered. One lady opened the book to the last page and told me that she buys a book based on whether she likes the last paragraph of the book. She bought the book!
I think the clincher for many was the teaser at the beginning of the book that read:
Sounds of one writhing in pain were heard by neighbors who ran to help. Only to find someone on the floor screaming, “I’ve been poisoned, I’ve been poisoned!” while another looked on laughing like a banshee.
All in all, it was a great experience and I was happy to announce that all the books that Barnes and Nobel had available, were sold.
